坂本龍馬の背叛!

Theatrespace has obtained authorization from Narui Yutaka(成井豐)to translate the renowned work “裏切り御免!”.

The story takes place during Japan’s Bakumatsu period, where members of the Shinsengumi(新選組), a faction aligned with the shogunate(幕府), send undercover agent Tachikawa Jinsuke(立川迅助) to infiltrate a group of pro-modernization activists led by Sakamoto Ryoma(坂本龍馬) and others. However, after spending a considerable amount of time with the enemy, Jinsuke begins to question whether the never-ending cycle of brutal battles can truly bring peace and happiness to the people.

Sakamoto Ryoma, a Ishin Shishi, is a symbol of spirit. Although he wields a sword, the ones he aims to strike are not people. He is both a samurai and a revolutionary, leading abandoned wanderers and the people towards a new era.

As we contemplate the beliefs of Sakamoto Ryoma, we reflect upon the beauty and ugliness of human nature. From today’s society filled with hatred and division, we learn how to rediscover our original intentions and protect the beliefs and values that are important to us. Additionally, the play “坂” incorporates elements of traditional Japanese Iaido(居合道), as well as musical instruments such as the shamisen and shakuhachi, introducing the audience to various aspects of traditional Japanese culture.
