Verdict

Agatha Christie’s most prideful work, different from her other detective novels, breaks free from the traditional “whodunit” style of storytelling. Instead, it intricately explores the dark side of human nature through tangled relationships between men and women.

University professor Hon Ka Yee, in order to escape political persecution, moves to England with his wife Anya and her cousin Lisa. The charming Professor Hon is beloved by his students, but his wife has been plagued by illness and has become moody due to homesickness. Gentle Lisa, in order to take care of Anya, lives with the couple and suppresses her own feelings for Professor Hon. Until one day, a whimsical aristocratic girl named Helen suddenly enters this emotional entanglement, daringly challenging Professor Hon’s moral boundaries and completely tearing apart the facade of goodness.

Theatrespace’s first stage production in 2020, “Verdict” allows you to savor Agatha Christie’s treasure and Mr. Rupert Chan’s excellent translation left the Hong Kong theater scene.
